If you’ve watched exercise channels, you have probably seen a person advertising a vibration machine for your home.
They always highlight the weight loss benefits of this vibrating platform that sometimes you wonder if it’s really working.
If you’ve doubted this product the way I did, then you’re definitely curious about how it works.
What is a Vibration Machine?
A vibration machine is a small platform that vibrates. Simple as that – no add-ons, no other frills, just a simple vibrating space where you can just stand and burn the extra calories.
However, more sophisticated models of this equipment have popped up in gyms and other fitness clubs.
People who have used a vibration machine often claim that it aids in weight loss.
Personally, it makes sense because when you step on a vibrating platform, your muscles contract and expand as a response to all those shaking. In effect, it feels like you’ve exercised for a few minutes.
But the scientific explanation for this is that the vibration makes your body feel that you are losing balance.
So naturally, your body will continuously strive for balance during the time that you’re on the platform. This activates all your muscles, especially your core.
There’s also the right way of standing on this platform. No, you won’t just stand even if you can also do that.
But personal trainers recommend that you position yourself in a squat where your knees are slightly bent. Then, hold the handles (if yours have any) and just stay there for 10-15 minutes.
Benefits of a Vibration Machine
So going back to the claim that “standing on a vibrating platform can achieve weight loss” is too good to be true, I decided to do a little research on the exercise benefits of a vibration machine. Here are a few major benefits I found.
1. Weight Loss
The most popular health benefit associated with vibration machines is weight loss.
For someone who wants to lose weight but doesn’t have the time to do all those heavy lifting, a vibration machine was definitely something I would love to have.
As explained a little earlier, the vibration reinforces the movement of your muscles even without you doing sets of exercises.
However, research also shows that standing on a vibration machine will not give you all the best results.
If you really want to have a more substantial weight loss result, then you should also complement this with exercises a few times a week.
2. Improved Bone Health
Not everyone can do a lot of exercises because their bone health prevents them from doing so.
If you ask me, this is where vibration machines are the best equipment to buy. There are some who can’t do jumping and sit-ups because their spine problems make it hard for them.
With a vibration machine, they don’t have to move in weird positions that will only stress their spinal cord.
In fact, there are a lot of on-going studies that focus on how much a vibration machine helps in improved bone health.
Some concluded studies show that it decreased the chances of bone fractures by strengthening the bones, muscles, and joints.
3. Reduced Stress
And then you also have reduced stress as one of its main health benefits. Standing on a vibrating platform might not seem helpful if you want to release all the anger and frustration of the day, but it does help produce endorphins that will make you feel a lot better.
Usually, what I do is to stand on top of my home vibration machine and then just fire up the TV and watch something that will make me laugh. For me, this is enough to forget all the stress I got at work.
